Occasionally you’ll come across affiliate links on my site. What are they, and what is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing refers to the promotion of a product or service in return for a commission. You may see an occasional message on my webpages about affiliate links in the text. This means that when you click and purchase the product or service via the link, I earn a small part of the sale.
This will never cost you a penny/cent more than if you were to purchase the product on the same site without going through my link. The only difference is that the company the link goes to will get slightly less of your money, and I will get slightly more. You will not be paying any extra.
I only ever link to products or services that I have either used myself and had a positive experience with, or that trusted friends or colleagues of mine have highly recommended to me. I will never provide an affiliate link to a website that isn’t reputable, or to a product or service that I wouldn’t be 100% comfortable spending my own money on.
Why do I have affiliate links on my site?
It’s not easy being a full-time freelance editor and proofreader. Much of my time is spent on unpaid work (marketing, admin, writing blog posts etc). If I don’t work, I don’t get paid, simple as. Holidays and time off sick means zero money coming in.
Affiliate links bring in a small amount of extra money to help pay the bills each month.
Being an affiliate also encourages me to buy products and services to try out before I recommend them to you. So you benefit too!
How did I start in affiliate marketing?
The first affiliate programme I joined was Amazon Affiliates, as they are a well-known brand and have a great variety of products. It took just five minutes to set up.
Next, I did an online search for other products and services that I wouldn’t hesitate to endorse. For example, “canva affiliate programme”. Most reputable companies will have a way for you to promote their products and make a small commission on any sales via your site.
If you decide to go down the affiliate marketing route, I wish you all the best!
Disclosure: Some of the links on this page are affiliate links. This means, at zero cost to you, I will earn an affiliate commission if you click on the link and finalise a purchase. This helps me to keep this website running. I only recommend products and services that I trust and am comfortable endorsing. Find out more.
